Gorilla Permits in Uganda and Rwanda: What You Are Actually Paying For

A Dated Right to Trek

A gorilla permit is issued for a specific date and park sector. It is paid in full up front because the wildlife authority must reserve that slot. Kitum’s terms match that reality: gorilla permit money is not a casual deposit you shuffle later.

Uganda (Bwindi or Mgahinga) and Rwanda (Volcanoes) run separate systems and separate prices. We tell you the current official rate when we quote — rates change, and a website that pretends otherwise is lying.

How We Book

Once you confirm a safari and pay the deposit on the land portion, we collect the permit funds and secure the date through the official channel. Names and passport details must match. A spelling error is a problem at the briefing, not a charming story.

If you already hold permits, send the paperwork. We will build the lodge and road days around them instead of double-booking.

Age, Health, and Conduct

Parks set a minimum age (commonly 15). Anyone with a contagious illness should not trek — gorillas catch human respiratory disease. Stay the distance your ranger sets. One hour means one hour.

Porters are not optional luxury in steep forest; they are local employment. Budget to hire and tip fairly.

If Plans Change

Park refund and date-change rules are strict. Our cancellation terms sit on the Terms page and in your confirmation. We will work for a date shift when the park allows it. Refunds follow the park authority and our Terms page.
